Let’s take a classic treat and turn them more Easter-themed, shall we?
I can’t believe how easy it was to make rice cereal treats into an egg-shaped… and multicolored at that. My kids and I had so much fun putting these together. Mind you, we kind of made a mess in the process but I feel like it’s okay to get a little messy sometimes!
We chose yellow, red, and purple for our eggs but you can choose any color you wish. I think next time I do this, I’ll go for pinks, lilacs, and mint green.
What colors would you choose if you made these?
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter
4.5 cups mini marshmallows
4.5 cups rice cereal
Red gel food coloring
Yellow gel food coloring
Purple gel food coloring
Directions:
You will be making this recipe in separate batches so make sure you prepare three different bowls for each color. Each batch will require 1 tbsp butter, 1.5 cups mini marshmallows, and 1.5 cups rice cereal, plus one of the food coloring gels.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a small pot on medium heat, melt butter and marshmallows together.
Once melted, pour into a bowl. Add food coloring and mix.
Add rice cereal and fold until cereal is well-coated with the marshmallow mixture.
Repeat for 2 other colors. Grab about 1-2 tbsp of each colored cereal treat mixture in your hand and form into an egg shape (feel free to mix the colors – that’s the fun in it!). Place on lined baking sheet. Allow cooling completely before serving.
