What part of the pig is carnitas?

This Instant Pot Mexican carnitas recipe is similar to America’s pulled pork recipe.

Pork shoulder is generally the part of the pig that is used for carnitas.

This part of the pig is also referred to as pig butt.

Due to the higher fat contact, a pork shoulder helps retain moisture and keep your meat tender while it’s cooking to perfection for carnitas.

Are carnitas and pulled pork the same?

While Mexican carnitas is similar to pulled pork, there is one major difference.

You’ll find that once your Instant Pot is done cooking your carnitas that you’ll place the dish in a 400 degree preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the edges are crisp.

This final step of making Mexican carnitas isn’t part of the process of making pulled pork.

Are Instant Pot Mexican Carnitas spicy?

Due to the cumin in this Instant Pot Mexican carnitas recipe, there will be a slight kick to the recipe.

Cumin is one of the favorite spices used in chili and Mexican dishes to help give the recipe a bit of a kick without filling your mouth with spice.

These carnitas have a slight spice, rather than an overpowering spicey kick so that those who don’t desire spicy foods can enjoy this meal.

What can I make with pork carnitas?

There is a variety of things you can make with pork carnitas.

When it comes to making this Instant Pot Mexican carnitas recipe you’ll need a few spices and other ingredients.

You’ll get your Instant Pot ready to cook and within 30 minutes your pork roast will be cooked to perfection.

This Instant Pot Mexican Rice is the perfect side dish to serve for mealtime, a fiesta, or another special occasion.

I’m always on the lookout for new side dish options to serve my family.

Instant Pot Mexican Rice in a bowl

We fully enjoy Mexican-style meals whenever possible and using my Instant Pot keeps me from spending hours in the kitchen prepping for dinner.

I love that my Instant Pot saves so much time with the process of making Mexican rice from scratch so that I can have more quality time with my family.

What spices to add to rice?

The spices and herbs that I have listed to add to rice for this Instant Pot Mexican rice recipe include garlic, paprika, cumin, oregano, and cilantro.

You’ll also want to add some salt and pepper to taste when making Mexican rice from scratch.

What can I eat with Mexican rice?

This Instant Pot recipe is the perfect side dish to serve with chicken enchiladas, shrimp tacos, Mexican stuffed peppers, or chicken tacos.

The list of what you can eat with Mexican rice can be rather endless as it all depends on your preferences of what you usually enjoy with a side dish of rice.

Mexican Rice in a bowl on a table

Is Mexican rice and Spanish rice the same?

While Mexican rice and Spanish rice have many similarities the key difference is that Mexican rice uses cumin while Spanish rice uses saffron.

This makes both rice options different in flavor and is worth taking a look at before you opt to make Spanish rice or Mexican rice to go with your main course meal.

This Instant Pot Mexican rice tends to have a spicy kick to it as it has both cumin and Jalapenos.

These two key ingredients make my Mexican rice a little spicier and an excellent side dish for anyone who loves to have a spicy kick to their rice.

Sometimes people refer to Mexican rice as Arroz Rojo which means red rice.

How long does Mexican rice last in the fridge?

When you’re done enjoying this Instant Pot Mexican rice you may have some leftovers.

The best way to store leftover Mexican rice is in an airtight container in the fridge.

You can keep Mexican rice in the fridge for 4-6 days when it’s placed in a sealed container.

INSTANT POT APPLE CRISP WITH SALTED CARAMEL DRIZZLE TIPS AND QUESTIONS

If you’ve never made Apple Crisp in a pressure cooker, don’t worry!

Below are some common questions and helpful tips.

Hopefully, this will answer any questions you may have.

If not, feel free to ask in the comments and I’ll answer the best I can.

HOW LONG DOES IT REALLY TAKE TO COOK APPLE CRISP IN THE INSTANT POT?

One of the many reasons I love my Instant Pot is because everything you make takes much less time.

This Apple Crisp recipe takes approximately 30 minutes. TOTAL. This includes:

  • About 15 minutes of prep time
  • Close to 10 minutes to cook the caramel sauce
  • Around 13 minutes for the pot to come to pressure (this is how long it took my pot)
  • 1-minute manual, high  (yes, really only 1 minute!)
  • 2 minutes for pressure release

If you were to cook apple crisp in the oven, you’d be baking them for 45 minutes.

Instant Pot Apple Crisp with Salted Caramel Drizzle

DO I NEED TO PEEL THE APPLES?

Nope. It’s truly up to you whether you peel the apples for apple crisp.

If you decide to leave the peels on, make sure to wash the apples.

DO I NEED TO ADD COARSE SALT TO THE CARAMEL?

No, in fact, you can skip the salt if you want.

Please do not add the equivalent amount of table salt as coarse salt to the caramel because it will probably taste too salty.

WHAT KIND OF APPLES MAKE THE BEST APPLE CRISP?

Granny Smith apples make the best Apple Crisp because they are crisp and stand up to baking well.

They are very easy to find at most grocery stores.

If you have to substitute, you can use Fuji apples.

HOW DO YOU REHEAT APPLE CRISP?

You can easily reheat Apple Crisp in your microwave using a microwave-friendly container, at 30-second intervals until the desired temperature, in your toaster oven or oven at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, or air fryer at 350 degrees in 5-minute intervals.

Instant Pot Apple Crisp with Salted Caramel Drizzle

WHAT GOES WELL WITH INSTANT POT APPLE CRISP?

Instant Pot Apple Crisp goes well with a wide variety of desserts. Some of my personal favorites include:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • New York Style Cheesecake
  • Pumpkin Pie

CAN I USE PRE-SLICED APPLES INSTEAD OF FRESH APPLES?

Yes, you can use pre-sliced apples to save time.

Make sure to dice them. As for the taste, however, in my opinion, the fresh apples taste better. 🙂

WHAT ELSE CAN I ADD TO THIS INSTANT POT APPLE CRISP RECIPE?

This simple pressure cooker apple crisp recipe not only tastes great, but it’s also incredibly versatile.

Try adding 1 cup of frozen or dried cranberries, a handful of chopped pecans, and/or 1 cup of mixed berries. YUM!

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

For the filling:

  • 4 medium-sized Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup of water

For the sauce :

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt

Instructions

  1. Add melted butter to the Instant Pot and swirl to coat the bottom of the pan. Add in the filling ingredients; brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, and apples. Stir until well combined. Pour water over apples.
  2. Prepare the crumble topping. Mix together all dry ingredients until well combined. Add in the diced butter with a fork, using it to work the butter into the dry mix until combined well with a sand-like texture. Sprinkle the topping over the apple mixture in the pot. Close and lock the Instant Pot lid, and seal the valve.

Stir constantly until mixture boils, then continue to boil for 2 minutes. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Set aside until ready for use.
  5. Serve the apple crisp warm in a bowl and drizzle with the salted caramel sauce. Great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

Leftover sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1 month.
