I can totally see why Black Panther was such a hit at the box office. As I watched the movie, I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for what was to come. Jam-packed with thrill and adventure, this is a film I’ll watch over and over again (I’ve already seen it three times in theatres!).
Obviously, I was inspired to make some themed-treats to commemorate the film. It took me awhile to think of what kind of dessert would deem worthy of such a great story. Finally, I came up with my Black Panther Party Cupcakes and I am so proud of the result.
Ingredients
1 box of chocolate cake mix, prepared as cupcakes
4 sticks butter, softened
8 cups confectioners’ sugar
3.-4 tbsp milk
5-6 drops black gel food coloring
16 oz. white fondant
Silver food dust
Yields: 24 cupcakes
Directions
Before decorating, ensure that cupcakes are completely cool.
With an electric mixer, start beating butter, sugar, and milk on medium speed. Gradually increase the speed to high and buttercream will start to form. It is ready once it forms stiff peaks.
Place half of the buttercream in a small bowl and mix with black gel food coloring. Mix until completely colored.
Fold the dark grey/black buttercream with the other half portion of your buttercream to create a marbled look. Using a piping bag, frost each cupcake.
Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Roll 96 small spheres (about ½ inch in diameter) and place carefully on a lined baking sheet.
Shape each sphere into “claws.” Roll them into cylinders and pinch the top. In the middle, curve it slightly to give it a claw-like shape.
Brush each claw with silver food dust. Add 4 to each cupcake. Enjoy!
