The trail itself is fairly easy to follow because it has been cleared of any obstacles, such as fallen trees or branches that may have fallen across it.

Several wooden steps are built into steep areas along the trail, allowing hikers to safely cross over muddy areas without getting their shoes stuck in the muck or climbing over large rocks or root systems that may be blocking their path forward.

2. Bluff Trail

Congaree National Park has many trails and is a great place to go hiking.

If you’re looking for an easy hike (no elevation gain), Boardwalk Trail is one of the best Hiking Trails in Congaree National Park.

This trail passes through a cypress/tupelo swamp, which is home to alligators, otters, deer, turkeys, and other animals.

If you’re looking for something more challenging, another one of our favorites is the River Bluff Trail. It’s a 5-mile loop with some elevation gain (but it’s not too difficult).

8. Conundrum Creek Trail

Conundrum Creek Trail is one of the best Hiking Trails in Congaree National Park. It is difficult, so it’s great for beginners and experts.

The trail is about 2 miles long, but several other trails branch off from it.

This trail offers hikes of anywhere from 1 mile to 5 miles, depending on your desired distance and the terrain you want to explore.

The trail starts by going through some old-growth forest, which is amazing because there aren’t many places left with old-growth trees anymore.

The further you go into the trail, the denser the undergrowth and the wetter and muddier.

The creek isn’t very wide or deep, but it has some big rocks on either side. You’ll have to climb down into it to cross over (there are no bridges).

Once you reach the trail’s end, there’s a small waterfall you can stand behind for pictures.

9. Cowpen Slough Trail

One of the best Hiking Trails in Congaree National Park is Cowpen Slough Trail.

This one-mile loop trail is a great way to get an up-close look at the swamp and see some wildlife there.

The trail starts at a boardwalk that takes you through a cypress swamp. There are several benches along the way so that you can stop and enjoy the scenery.

The boardwalk ends at a large open field where you can walk around and explore.

The trail then takes you back into the woods, where several places exist to take pictures or enjoy the peacefulness of being in the woods.

When we were there, we were lucky enough to see two deer grazing on the grass near one of the wooden bridges that crossed Cowpen Branch Creek.

This is one of my favorite trails in Congaree National Park because it’s relaxing and enjoyable. it doesn’t take very long to walk either!

10. Lower River Loop Trail

 Congaree National Park is a stunning place to visit. The Lower River Loop Trail is one of the best Hiking Trails in Congaree National Park.

Congaree National Park is located in South Carolina and has much to offer.

The park is home to North America’s largest tract of old-growth bottomland hardwoods.

It also contains many threatened or endangered species of plants and animals, including the red-cockaded woodpecker, black bear, and white-tailed deer.

Although the Lower River Loop Trail is only one mile long, it offers beautiful scenery along the Congaree River.

The trail is wide enough for two hikers to walk side by side and has no steep hills.

It’s mostly flat, with some small dips at certain points along the trail.

One thing that makes this trail so great is it’s paved with asphalt, so it’s easy on your feet!

Congaree National Park is a lesser-known but beautiful swath of land nestled among the forests of South Carolina.

I remember the days of childhood, where we wished upon a star to be adults. A time when we thought we had no fun or choices to make, yet it was the simplest of times. This almost takes you back to a time when life was so much more simple and calm.

We recently stayed at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island where we were able to get a little piece of relaxation. This accommodation is located in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Nestled among the beaches with tropical gardens to walk through, this place is an excellent choice to get away from it all. There are many outdoor activities on the island such as kayaking, tennis, and golf or you can take a seat in the shallows of the ocean letting the waves beat against you.

My Thoughts About Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island

I honestly loved staying here. The Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island had everything I could want or need right there. Since the resort sits on the beach, we didn’t have to travel far for my son Devon to enjoy a dip in the ocean water. Devon also loved the resort’s pool, he truly is my water child, always enjoying a nice dip in a pool or the ocean whenever the chance arises.

Everything I Could Want or Need

Our room was very spacious with all of the amenities I wanted such as a refrigerator, coffee maker, TV, and more. There’s plenty of parking so we didn’t have to worry about finding a place to park upon arrival. I loved that there was a restaurant inside the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island as well as a bar that doubled as a coffee shop. The breakfast served at the restaurant was delicious and rather convenient so we didn’t have to get up and leave to find a meal first thing in the morning. I loved that I was able to feel spoiled in their spa with a massage, one of the best I’ve received! We honestly didn’t have to leave for anything, which made this stay a more relaxing time for my family.

Things to do in Columbia, South Carolina

Columbia is the capital of South Carolina. It is a great place to visit museums, like the Columbia Museum of Art and the South Carolina Military Museum. Visit the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden. While these places do have a fee, there are plenty of free things to do in Columbia that will help you enjoy your time without hurting your wallet.

Free Things to Do in Columbia

Columbia offers a wide variety of parks and urban green space. I am creating this list of free things to do in Columbia so that families can visit the area and enjoy some of the beautiful places that Columbia has to offer.

Riverfront Park

Riverfront Park was opened in 1983. It was planned around the city’s oldest original waterworks and hydroelectric plant, which is the oldest one in the state and it still operating. Riverfront Park, about 167 acres, is a favorite place for walking and jogging trails. The trails are about two and a half miles and offer great views of the park and the river. Each year the park has events like the Riverfest, held at the brick amphitheater. Other smaller concerts can be seen there during the year as well.

Finlay Park

FinlayPark is one of the best-known parks in the state. It is known for hosting festivals, political rallies and everything in between including Easter Sunrise services. The park, which is 18 acres, has become a focal point in the downtown area. It often hosts things like Kids Day and Summer concerts. The park is located across the street from the Governor’s Mansion and is one of the most photographed views of downtown. Be sure to visit the bronze statue of Kirkman Finlay, the late mayor of Columbia, sitting on a bench, which was unveiled in April 2000.

Lake Murray

Lake Murray is one of the jewels of Columbia. It offers the best views of the area. Enjoy a walk or bike along the Lake Murray dam. It is best viewed at sunrise or sunset for the most vibrant colors reflecting off the water. There is a $3 fee to enter the park, but on the Lexington side, there is free parking.

State House

The State House offers free guided and self-guided tours Monday through Friday. Visit the State House and learn a bit of history.  The State House and ground of the Capital Complex offer many works of art, including portraits and monuments. The works of art to honor important people and events that have had been a part of the history of South Carolina.

Sally Salamander Walking Tour

Sally Salamander is the Columbia ambassador. Sally Salamander is a walking tour of downtown Columbia. It involves visiting numbered bronze statues, and each one has Sally Salamander with it. Get the map and visit the first stop on the tour at the Columbia SC Visitors Center.

When you spot Sally Salamander along your journey, feel free to pet her.

Fall is in the air and I know you are ready to hit those oh so amazing pumpkin patches that we have available to us here in South Carolina!  Whether you are wanting to go to a classic pumpkin patch, a full-on harvest festival or if you just want to check out a great corn maze or two, or even if you just want to stop by and grab a pumpkin, I have created a list for you of the top pumpkin patches in South Carolina for you to check out and enjoy!

Here it is my friends, the top pumpkin patches in South Carolina:

• West Farm Corn Maze – Moncks Corner.  This 6-acre farm offers a huge corn maze, a farm zoo, hayrides, children’s play area, tire climb and more. Don’t forget to visit the massive Pumpkin Barn to pick out your pumpkin before you leave.
• Cotton Hills Farms.  Cotton Hills Farms is the largest pumpkin farm in South Carolina, as well as one of the most popular.  They offer hayrides every Saturday in October which makes picking your own pumpkin a lot more exciting.  Their harvest fest features fun events such as a scavenger hunt, a corn maze, a pumpkin catapult, games, live music and more.
• Denver Downs.  If you are located upstate, then Denver Downs is the pumpkin patch for you.  They have over 30 family activities including a tube slide, corn maze (complete with trivia at every turn), hayrides, petting zoo and more.  You can even see Scotty McCreery in concert during the harvest festival this year (2018)!
• Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch. During the month of October, Boone Hall Plantation (an exciting attraction on its own) offers a wildly popular pumpkin patch that features fun attractions such as a slide tower, huge spider web, corn maze, rock wall and of course, lots and lots of pumpkins.
• Holiday Farms. Holiday Farms offers incredible family fun with attractions that will keep you having fun throughout your visit.  You will find the “Haytona Speedway” the Great Pumpkin Patch a barnyard zoo, steer roping and more.
• Stewart’s Farms.  This is an incredibly popular pumpkin patch every single Fall and the pumpkins go fast so be sure to early to get the best selection.  Don’t worry though, it’s not just about the pumpkins, it’s about the fun! While you are there, you will find a huge corn maze, a spooky maze, wagon rides and more.
• Legare Farms’.  Legare Farms pumpkin patch features awesome attractions such as duck races, Haunted House, trail of terror, and haunted hayride (one weekend in October), after dark pumpkin picking, horse rides, hay rides scarecrow factory, nature quest and more.
• Willard Farms’. Featuring a corn maze, costume contest, hayrides, pumpkin patch and more, the Willard Farm pumpkin patch is on many people’s must-visit list and will provide lots of harvest fun for your family.
• Clinton Sease Farm.  The Clinton Sease Farm offers lots of family fun during it’s harvest festival and this includes activities such as campfires, corn maze, play areas for the kids, hayrides and plenty more.  You can explore this farm all on your own, or you can reserve a tour of the farm!
• Berry Acres Farm.  Berry Acres Farms is more than just a pumpkin patch, it is a harvest adventure!  Here you will find typical pumpkin patch fun such as hayrides and a corn maze, but you will also find adventurous attractions such as zip lining, giant jumping pillows, and many more activities!  Just be sure you don’t forget your pumpkins while you are out adventuring.

This location has been haunting people for many years with great success. The doors will open on September 22, 2018, and you’ll be able to enjoy the best haunted house in North Carolina. There is a ½ mile haunted walk plus other attractions for those who don’t want to partake in the haunted walk.

Nightmare Dungeon

There are over 20 nightmare scenes at this haunted house in South Carolina. The thrills are real and they have been known as one of the best haunted houses for years. There are a few levels of this haunted house and it will not disappoint, that is if you’re into super spooky haunted house attractions.

Kreepy Hollow

This haunted house located in South Carolina is now open for a spooky adventure! This is a fun time for anyone looking for the best haunted houses in South Carolina, they’ll be opening later than normal this season due to circumstances beyond their control so check their website for opening date.

Nashville Nightmare Haunted Houses

There are multiple attractions at Nashville Nightmare Haunted houses, which is perfect for anyone seeking to head to Nashville to enjoy the best-haunted houses but want less or more of a scare during their haunted house experience.

Frightmare Manor

This location is advising that people carpool to the location due to limited parking, but you may drive yourself here still to enjoy one of the best-haunted houses in Tennessee. This haunted house is great as there is a true story here that’s being brought to life for your spooky pleasure.

Netherwood Haunted House

This attraction is a walk through spooky event and has been deemed one of the best-haunted houses in Georgia. You’ll be able to walk through the area and get spooked during your time at this attraction. Their website shows trailers of samples of the spooky fun you’ll have here.

Paranoia Haunted House

This has been said to be a very creative and original haunted house in Florida to enjoy during the Halloween season. This haunted house made my best haunted houses list because of its unique reviews stating that many will enjoy this haunted house.
